Psyllium husks are a dietary fiber in dog and cat food and are considered a prebiotic, meaning they can be further utilized by intestinal bacteria in the large intestine. They therefore support normal intestinal function. The seed husks contain a very high proportion (20-30%) of mucilage. They also have a very high swelling and water-binding capacity, capable of binding 4-5 times their own volume of water. The husks swell significantly better than the whole seeds due to their high soluble fiber content.
The psyllium husks are suitable for dogs and cats. They can be used to supplement ready-made or home-cooked food.

Shelf life approximately 6 months. Store in a cool, dry place away from light.
Mix the seeds with water
Mix the psyllium husks with a sufficient amount of water. A good rule of thumb is to use about 1 g of psyllium husks per 5 kg of body weight and mix them with 20-30 ml of water per gram.
Stir carefully
Stir the mixture thoroughly to avoid lumps. A whisk can help with this.
Sources
Allow the mixture to soak for at least 15 to 20 minutes. It should take on a gel-like consistency.
Mix into the feed
Thoroughly mix the soaked mixture into your dog's food. Start slowly: Begin with a small amount and gradually increase it over several days to avoid overwhelming your dog's digestive system and preventing bloating.
Important NOTE!
Never feed dry psyllium husks. They can swell considerably in a dog's stomach. If they are not soaked beforehand, they can draw water from the intestines and cause constipation.
