Why does a puppy need special junior food – and what is the difference to adult food?

DOG'S LOVE Puppy and Junior food is specially formulated to meet the needs of growing dogs between 6 weeks and 12 months of age. It provides young dogs with sufficient protein and all the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals necessary for proper growth, strong bone structure, and healthy muscle and joint development.

When is it recommended to switch from junior to adult food?

The DOG'S LOVE Junior line is ideal for puppies starting at 6 weeks of age. Depending on the breed and the growth rate of the young dog, we recommend gradually transitioning to adult food from the 10th to 12th month of life. A gradual transition is important. We recommend transitioning the food when the young dog's growth is (almost) complete.

How does a slow transition from junior to adult food work?

A gradual change in puppy food is necessary, as the young dogs need time to get used to the new food composition. Changing the food too quickly can result in digestive problems, diarrhea, and flatulence.
Ideally, the transition takes about two to four weeks, with small amounts of adult food always being mixed into the junior food and the puppy food being gradually reduced until only the adult food is left in the young dog's bowl!

How much food does a puppy need?

The recommended feeding amount depends heavily on the puppy's individual needs. All DOG'S LOVE products include a feeding chart calculated in consultation with veterinarians on the packaging. All values given are guidelines and depend on age, activity level, breed, and individual needs. For DOG'S LOVE Junior wet food, the amount is based on the puppy's current weight. For DOG'S LOVE Junior dry food, the feeding amount is calculated based on the dog's final weight.

Do I need to soak the dry food in water before feeding?

We recommend soaking the dry food in water for approximately 15 minutes before serving. This is because the moisture is removed from the dry food during the manufacturing process. Soaked dry food is also easier to digest, as it doesn't have to be softened by stomach acid first. Dog's Love dry food doesn't swell in the stomach and is therefore easily digestible.
